Freelance Links

The Freelancer

This part of the photo student site is dedicated to freelance photography. Freelance photography is a good and solid starting
point for most starting photographers today. Especially now in the digital age more and more amateur, and professional,
photographers try to sell their pictures to the market. This market is huge as daily thousands of photographs are selected for
publication. This can be on special assignment or bought through an image library. This means that fresh content is needed on
a daily basis and the market is open. So these pages is all about how to make money with photography.

The problem most photographers are facing is "What to take photos of and where to sell them?" We hope that we can give some
inside through these pages and to give you a starting point in the world that is freelancing.

Beside these pages we will start a Freelance photography blog were we will keep you up to date on new developments in this area.

Were to start?

The best way to start is to gain knowledge about the market and what the customers want in a particular moment in time.
Most of the time this is the hard part as this required market research and, as we are photographers, we want to be behind the
camera. That is there where we make our money. So how can we get around this?

Become a member of the Bureau of Freelance Photographers. They are an organisation especially for the freelance
photographer and take most of the hard work out of your hands. For a small yearly fee, £54 for UK members and £70 for
oversee member, they keep you informed about the market, bringing out a monthly new letter and help you selling your pictures.
This is money well spend!

What is more they have a specialised course on freelance photography with 16 lessons which covers all the market segments.
You can ask for a brochure on their site here.....

The BFP has kindly donated the course for us to review and we have opened a blog on this course and freelancing in general.
